Broadband access technologies of DSL and Cable Modem (CM) are now widely deployed by competing telecom and cable TV network operators respectively. Fiber-based FTTP (FTTH, FTTB, etc.) will be the ultimate access solutions. This paper will examine the broadband access network evolution options for FTTP over cable TV’s HFC networks and discuss its competitiveness when compared with telecom network’s FTTP
